Carmelo Costa

Homecoming

  • Australia

Moving back in with your parents in your 30s doesn’t have to be a shameful and embarrassing experience, it can also be super degrading! Since his sold-out debut solo show Sloppy Toppy, a few things have changed for Carmelo. Well one main thing. Join Carmelo as he returns to Melbourne International Comedy Festival with an hour of gay, sardonic stand-up, diving into family dynamics, rental horrors of the past, sex, relationships and mental health. Let’s just say the Grindr grid looks a little different in the suburbs.

Carmelo is a mainstay in the Melbourne comedy circuit, recognised for his sharp, snarky and risqué material. Now in his fourth year at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, he follows sold-out runs of Belligerent, Gay Horseplay and his 2024 debut solo show, Sloppy Toppy.

"Filled with pithy wit, campy melodrama, and electric raunch."
"Costa’s keen ability to turn intimate truths into relatable punchlines is a joy to watch." ★★★★ - Ryan Hamilton, Funny Tonne

'Like a machine gun... held the audience in his hand.' - Weekend Notes

'Risque, cheeky, will leave you doubling-over-with-laughter.' ★★★★½ - What Did She Think

'A willingness to be vulnerable and dirty and sad, and funny.' - Praise Dionysus

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
