Australian Highlights

  • Australia

Be part of our FREE events where we'll unravel the language of science poetry and find weird stuff in our brains.

Australian Highlights is the podcast series where we meet the innovative people and ideas that are not - yet! - common knowledge. Join host Rachel Rayner, Science Explainer, in this live recording for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival exploring the captivating stories behind Australian innovations in science, art & culture.

At each event a different Victorian innovator will chat to a local comedian, who has no idea what they're about to discover.

Sat, 12 April: What happens if we truly live in a world where science and art are one? And what can science poetry show us about innovative thinking? Poet Alica Sometimes will lead us into the realms of artistic science and scientific art to uncover just how amazing the universe is.

Sun, 13 April: It’s the exciting world of brain scans and statistics. What more could you want? This is local medical innovations with Dr Freda Werdiger. Host Rachel may faint if she has to say the word ‘blood’. Discussions will range from a portable brain scanner currently being tested by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, to advancements in statistical measurements: can the numbers really measure a “good life”?

Suitable for audiences 15+
